PROCIV Arci Isola di Capo Rizzuto Association

The PROCIV Arci Isola di Capo Rizzuto Association, linked to the national structure, has been active since 2000 and operates in various sectors related to “civil protection” in the field of natural disasters and the promotion of services aimed at the community and people through the social assistance and intercultural mediation for the inclusion in the local context of disadvantaged people and refugees, including through the management of reception centers in the area.

From 2001 to 2007 it managed the International Refugee Center (former Refugee Secretariat, formerly PNA), called FER (European Refugee Fund), aimed at giving asylum to seekers refugees in Italy.

From 2002 to 2006, in partnership with local authorities and other voluntary associations, it managed the community project called “Equal”, whose purpose was the promotion of social integration between refugees and residents.

Since 2006 it has been managing the 2nd Reception Center of S. Anna, hosting the beneficiaries belonging to the SPRAR World, an ordinary category, to whom the reception is provided with a series of services, such as:

  • reception, health and social assistance;
  • socio-cultural and educational activities;
  • linguistic and intercultural mediation;
  • training, legal information and support for work and the search for autonomous housing solutions.

From September 2011 to February 2012 it gave hospitality to immigrants belonging to the North Africa Emergency.
From July 2013 until February 2014, it managed, in an emergency situation, three reception facilities, called “extensions”.
Since March 2014 it has been running an ordinary Sprar and some new structure hosting beneficiaries waiting to be heard in the Territorial Commission for the recognition of International Protection.

In order to promote forms of shared integration, an editorial work aimed at sensitizing and informing citizens about immigration entitled “Mio fratello che guarda il cielo” and the conference-exhibition “Oltre la tela… il viaggio. I colori dell’Accoglienza”, with works created during the painting workshop.

Other activities to promote socio-cultural integration relationships:

  • organization of the “1st Provincial Cricket Tournament” (2015);
  • laboratories of painting and craft workshops (2016);
  • football tournaments, as an aggregating and integrative element and comparison with local young people.

In 2016, the Prociv Arci Association participated as a partner in the European Integrative Reception System project, funded by F.A.M.I. (Asylum Migration and Integration Fund) through which it promoted and disseminated mediation in the health and social sphere.

The maintenance of Sprar 2017/2019 projects was strongly promoted by integration activities that, in 2017, developed through: the implementation of a multi-ethnic kitchen laboratory with the elaboration of a small recipe book; participation in the Football Tournament, with a team formed by the guys of the SpraR Centers, on the occasion of the Pontifical celebration of the Greek Madonna.

Another integration activity was the activation of training internships that saw Prociv as promoter and several companies in the territory as host subjects, whose main purpose was the socio-professional insertion through the implementation of an active path application-type learning and on-the-job learning for the acquisition of transversal and specific skills essential for integration in the social context.
